Early Morning Anguish

It's an everyday occurrence around here. In the hours before dawn, the air is filled with the sound of barking. In some cases, endless barking. After the sun rises, the noise gets even worse. And, at this time of the year, the sun rises shortly after 5 a.m.

What are these dogs so upset about? Who knows.

But does the sleep of the rest of us need to be disturbed by it? I think not.

The Department of Shameless Self-Promotion. If your neighborhood sounds like a kennel during the hours that you're trying to sleep, you have my sympathy. From my QuietBarkingDogs store, here's a tee shirt that might get the message across to your clueless neighbors -- "In the wee hours of the morning, I don't need to hear your barking dog." And here's a clue that you can add to your car's bumper -- "Yes I Do Mind If Your Dog Barks."

  1. Just seeing a neighborhood dog park that the residents did not ask for is also an eyesore first thing in the morning. Endless barking at any time of the day is just infinitely horrible.
I was in contact with someone who unfortunately lives in a building by a dog park who had to endure barking as early/late as 2 to 3am.
Neighborhoods should never be a dog kennel!
Also my sympathies for anyone and everyone who has to deal with that noise pollution daily.

  2. Here in Tucson, the city has done a pretty good job of locating its dog parks in areas that are not near homes. However, the park that's closest to my house is close enough to a residential neighborhood that there have been complaints.

Quite frankly, I stay away from that dog park. I don't care to hear the barking, and I'm not sure that all the dogs are under good control when they're being taken in and out of the park.
